Workplace Sexual Harassment is not to be tolerated: Janet Orlando's Case Shed Light on Bad Business Practices
In its hey day, Alarm One, based in Anaheim, had more than 300 employees who provide sales, installation, service and alarm monitoring to thousands of families across this country. Under the guise of motivational trainings, spankings took place. They occurred during sales staff meetings attended by teams of salespeople that competed against each other. The court testimony showed that in order to motivate the teams, the losers were spanked on the buttocks area while onlookers were hooting and yelling unbecoming comments. The court testimony showed that the atmosphere was one of complete lack of respect for the workforce. The Alarm One company knew it had some problems when it settled with some other employees who brought their lawsuit.
Jurors heard the arguments presented by both sides. They decided to side with Janet Orlando. The jury of six men and six women deliberated about 9 hours over two and reached its verdict. Janet Orlando has become the new millionaire in town. Well, we know she will get about $800,00. Hooting and hollering abusive language in a court of law is not permissible.
